Anthony was born in 1973, somewhere in the North. He has a degree in pure and applied mathematics from Warwick University. From 1995 to 2008 he worked for Big Sky Studios in London, starting as studio assistant, and working his way up to Director of Design; in this time he oversaw its expansion from 5,000 sqft to 37,000 sqft premises in Kings Cross.
In 2009 he decided to return to his first love, furniture design; his work combines his passions for art, design, and sustainability.
Manifold 2 is the first collection from artist/designer/mathematician, Anthony Leyland. They are functional sculptures - objects useful, beautiful and thoughtful, in equal measure.
Manifold 2 started with a mathematical game: make a coffee table from a square sheet of material by cutting and bending alone, with no other components.
The range has grown to include products such as side tables, dining tables, desks, and shelving. The rules of the game have been expanded to include a variety of materials and shapes.
Initially designed with card and scissors, the manifold 2 range is made in England from sheet steel, using advanced laser engineering as well as traditional craftsmanship.
Owning furniture that can be treasured for generations and retain its value is a pleasure, but also the best form of sustainability. Manifold 2’s designs are simple, elegant and timeless; its robust materials last indefinitely and age gracefully.
